Paul Cézanne was a French Post-Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundation for the transition from 19th-century Impressionism to 20th-century Cubism, profoundly influencing artists such as Picasso and Matisse.

Often called the “father of modern art,” his paintings are held in major museums worldwide, including the Musée d’Orsay in Paris. He died on October 22, 1906, in his hometown of Aix-en-Provence, France.
